Dmitry Oreshkin

Political scientist and political geographer, PhD in geography. One of the leading experts in the field of electoral geography and election analysis in Russia. He worked at the Institute of Geography of the USSR Academy of Sciences for over 25 years.

In the 1990s, he switched from physical geography to political geography and became a co-founder of the Mercator analytical group, which was engaged in mapping and modeling regional and electoral processes.

From 2009 to 2012, he was a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, where he oversaw electoral issues, but left in disagreement with government policies.

The author of works on the geography of voting and the political behavior of Russian regions, he actively speaks as an expert and commentator in Russian and international media.
